Whose Land is a web-based app that uses GIS technology to help people identify Indigenous Nations, territories and communities across Canada. Use it to learn about the territory your home or business is on, find information for a land acknowledgement, and learn about the treaties and agreements signed across Canada.
The app is an educational tool to create dialogue around reconciliation. It is a starting point for conversations between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people about land, territorial recognition and land acknowledgement.
Whose Land is the product of a shared vision between BOLD Realities, TakingITGlobal and Canadian Roots Exchange, who saw the need for a platform that increases knowledge and awareness of Indigenous territories, communities and Treaties.
Data
Whose Land partners with Native-Land. We worked closely with their team to build on their existing data rather than re-create it, and contributed back the gaps our research found. We also use the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation’s Residential Schools Locations Dataset (Orlandini, 2019) and the National Native American Boarding School Healing Coalition (NABS) US boarding schools dataset.
